9 Dazzling Party Hair Ideas for When the Invite Says, “Be Extra”

9 Dazzling Party Hair Ideas for When the Invite Says, “Be Extra”

Show up, get down, and let your hair do the talking.

Come December, a party is never just a party. Whether you’re hosting an epic Black and White Ball of Truman Capote–esque proportions or toasting the New York skyline on a tinsel-decked East Village rooftop, every occasion calls—make that begs—for an unforgettably festive stamp. And while editorial hairstylist James Pecis may be partial, he’s not wrong when he deems head-swiveling hair a vital part of the equation.

“It’s the perfect time to dress it up and play with what you’ve got,” he says, whipping Korean model Hoyeon Jung’s fire-engine red mane into a gravity-defying bouffant with the texture of cotton candy. In the case of Texan bombshell Hannah Ferguson’s waist-grazing blonde lengths, that meant amping up the glamour factor with rumpled Rapunzel waves and a ballerina bun wrapped in snowy fabric that’s a testament to the extreme chic of winter white.

As for the coiled tendrils of Paris-bred Aya Jones and up-and-coming runway star Aiden Curtiss? Think supersize sculptural moldings that possess a swagger all their own. And because there’s no time like the holidays for a little something that sparkles, twinkling hair accessories like Gucci’s gobsmacking crystal bow barrettes or Simone Rocha’s pearl-encrusted pins—placed in the hair with the idiosyncratic charm of ornaments—are merrymaking in their own right.

Sparing no flourish, Pecis has dreamed up nine decadent hair ideas that are destined to make an entrance. Because—let’s be real—if not now, then when?
