It was family night at the annual Chanel Tribeca Film Festival Artists Dinner, with Diane Kruger accompanied by her mother, Maria-Theresa; Paul and Chlo? Sevigny sitting at neighboring tables; Harley Viera-Newton and sister Rio posing for photos together; and Jemima Kirke catching up with her Girls on-screen cousin Zosia Mamet.
Chanel is no newcomer to iconic branding, and the guests dressed by the house stayed on message. In addition to the petit fours iced with interlocking Cs at the end of dinner, attendees seemed keen on clarifying they had been outfitted by Chanel, not just by sporting their fantasy tweed and cap-toe slingbacks but also with buttons, barrettes, bags, and ears dripping in diamanté Cs and C-H-A-N-E-L shoulder dusters.
During cocktail hour, Cara Delevingne and Ashley Benson braved the crowd and beelined for the bar, where Pom Klementieff’s shell-encrusted shoulder straps matched items found in the famous Balthazar seafood towers on offer. As guests took their seats at the dinner—which honors the artists who contributed original artwork as Tribeca Film Festival prizes—a porkpie-hatted JR paid his respects to festival majordomo Robert De Niro. Alexander Skarsg?rd, dressed as a latter-day Colonel Mustard, settled into his seat next to Helena Christensen, and artist Chloe Wise chatted with Rainey Qualley. Wise and Qualley’s tabletop was strewn with trompe l’oeil beach-ball purses from Chanel’s seaside-themed Spring 2019 collection: a squishy leather one that matched the powder-pink peonies for Viera-Newton and a Perspex clear and silver for Jen Brill. There’s no question life’s a beach when you dress and dine with Chanel.
