Is there anything better than a random celebrity meet-up? Last night, the iconic singer Barbra Streisand played a one-night-only concert in Chicago—and while that’s a hot ticket alone, the night got even more special when everybody’s favorite ponytailed pop diva Ariana Grande joined her on stage for a surprise performance. Cue the audience screams.
For their special duet, the two singers sang “No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)” together, Streisand’s 1979 disco tune originally sang with the queen of disco herself, Donna Summer. While the two stars may seem an unlikely pair—Grande is 26, Streisand is 77—their distinctive powerhouse voices closed the generational gap. Still, to be a fly on the wall during their initial meet-cute backstage.... Did they share a green room? Whose rider was more elaborate? Was there a rehearsal, or did the two pros wing the performance? (If they did, they have real skill.)
This blossoming friendship gives fellow unlikely celebrity friendships a run for their money (think Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart-level). Last night’s on-stage hangout is actually a full-circle moment for Grande, though: An old video has resurfaced of Grande cheerfully clapping in the audience of a Streisand concert, way back in 2006. Meeting a musical inspiration is always a pinch-me moment, sure—performing with them is even better. Grande later wrote on Twitter that she will cherish “this moment forever.”
